Out in the hills near the county line We had our place to go We were teenagers growing up fast But - being out there time slowed Friends and buddies and girls so fine It don’t seem that long ago We were all kids from somewhere Out on Firetower Road It could have been most any county – USA Our time to learn and grow Maybe we were scared that nobody cared And that’s why the beer and whiskey flowed Fast cars and trucks racing out of town We were driving ‘em like a pro We were all kids from somewhere Out on Firetower Road On Firetower Road we could see for miles That’s why they made it that way In the dry season – we knew with good reason It wasn’t the place to stay On Firetower Road and all around Let it rain – everyone would pray Believe it or not – she was so hot We were on fire everyday (instru) We were afraid our lives would explode out on Firetower road Out in the hills near the county line We had our place to go We were getting ready for the rest of our lives A future we would try to decode We were not the most popular But James Dean was a legend – you know We were all kids from somewhere Out on Firetower Road -Chorus repeat - Out in the hills near the county line We had our place to go Maybe we were needing someone And hoping it never showed We were all kids from somewhere - Out on Firetower Road We were all kids from somewhere - Out on Firetower Road

Jimmy lived alone down at the end of his road They paid him union wages to drive those heavy loads He saved up all his money, ‘cause rainy days ain’t sunny He had broken hearts and broken dreams And a woman who ain’t what she seems Jimmy had some plans for when he parked his rig for good A big-time bar in the city where the grocery store once stood He said the past can be forgiven and it’s time to do some livin’ Every night the band is playin’ and the sign on the road is sayin Live music, free parking – hot girls and ice cold beer You’ll love this bar – and it ain’t far One more mile and you are here Jeannie lived alone down at the end of her road She thought someday he’d come back but the memories grew cold It didn’t turn out like she hoped, years ago when they eloped She’s still brave and pretty – there’s a new place in the city Jeannie worked most every night pourin’ drinks and pullin’ beers She was ready for a new start – after all those years She heard Jimmy was a good man and working there was her plan She told him she’d be stayin’ as long as that sign was sayin’ Live music, free parking…(repeat chorus) Oh they both lived thru their good times and bad times In between times and sad times And Jimmy and Jeannie learned what time erases And stayin’ in the Lord’s good graces You find love in the most unlikely places – where there’s Live music, free parking - hot girls and ice cold beer You’ll love this bar and it ain’t far One more mile and you are here (repeat section: out)

I never thought I’d be living down here Hanging around by the sea Looking for love should be easy Hope that hurricane ain’t comin’ after me I never thought she’d be here with me Romancin’ by the sea My weekend weather girl on TV Hope that hurricane ain’t comin’ after me She can change her mind in a minute Like the ocean winds will blow So I check every morning For a storm watch or warning To survive – I need to know I never thought she’d leave me down here All alone by the sea We could never agree Hope that hurricane ain’t comin’ after me [inst :15] Maybe I should have seen it coming And listened to their advice My friends all say it’s the price you pay For living here in Paradise I never thought I’d be living down here But I’m still hanging around by the sea Looking for love ain’t so easy Hope that hurricane ain’t comin’ after me I’m still living here by the sea Hope that hurricane ain’t comin’ after me Lookin’ for love ain’t so easy Hope that hurricane ain’t comin’ after me The only hurricane I want to see Is the one they’re pouring in my glass for me If I’m lucky in love or just lucky Hope that hurricane ain’t comin’ after me

I don’t believe in being rude Or going through life with an attitude And I don’t believe in road rage I think everybody should act their age I don’t believe in credit cards Everything I own I worked for hard And I don’t believe in stealing Or hurting other people’s feelings I don’t believe in cussin’ Lying or fighting or fussin’ And I don’t believe in mindless flirtin’ Foolin’ around – and leaving ‘em hurtin’ I don’t believe I’ll ever see Another woman like you and certainly I don’t believe anyone could ever be Together – like you and me [ turnaround ] I don’t believe in trash talkin’ Or drinking so much it impairs my walkin’ I don’t believe I ever bounced a check I know I never had a wreck I don’t believe in political ads Droppin’ out of school – or the latest fads I don’t believe in astrology I guess I believe in eternity I don’t believe in cussin’…[repeat chorus] [ turnaround ] I don’t believe in throwin’ away A chance to make the world a little better today And I don’t believe I know it all I got a lot to learn for that final call I don’t believe in cussin’… [ repeat chorus ] I don’t believe anyone could ever be Together like you and me

When you walked in that bar with your friends I saw you had a smile that never ends And another nice surprise – You got pretty blue eyes And when you went out on the dance floor You showed off your moves and a lot more And another nice surprise - You got pretty blue eyes You told me your Daddy has a million or three And it’s gonna be yours eventually And another nice surprise – You got pretty blue eyes And we’ve been getting along so fine Ever since you said, “Your place or mine.” And another nice surprise - You got pretty blue eyes Oh, I want to know everything about you And make sure I get this right I’m worried I might be missing something Maybe it’s my eyesight I’m trying hard to see it all Even when you turn out the light I’m ready for your every surprise Cuz – you got pretty blue eyes [ Instru ] [oooh pretty blue eyes] Oh I couldn’t believe it was you and me At your beach house in Hawaii And another nice surprise You got pretty blue eyes I remember that wet T-shirt contest Whoa – look at you – they said you’re the best But it didn’t come as no surprise Cuz- you got pretty blue eyes I’m glad you let me be the one in your life Instead of those other guys And another nice surprise You got pretty blue eyes Oh – ain’t that a nice surprise? You got pretty blue eyes

Don’t know if I told you - I loved you long ago When the songs we listened to and sang to and danced to Were on the radio Don’t know if I told you - They kicked me out of school And, I was makin’ money then playin’ in the bars when I thought I was cool Don’t know if I told you - I grew up sometimes poor I always was a workin’ man - I never got to college and I never went to war Don’t know if I told you - But I know I have showed you I’m gonna love you more every day Don’t know if I told you - I’ll keep you safe and hold you And love you my old fashioned way Lead break – Don’t know if I told you - I like to talk on the phone And I still get my birthday cards and Christmas cards in the mail Delivered to my home Don’t know if I told you - I often take the time to pray I’m hopin’ it will do some good and ever since you said I should I try it every day Don’t know if I told you - The world is still insane Graves with flags and flowers and the power’s still in places Where it always will remain Don’t know if I told you - But I have always showed you I’m gonna love you more every day Don’t know if I told you - I’ll keep you safe and hold you And love you my old-fashioned way Don’t know if I told you - It’s you I do adore And I know all about you and I know I’ll never doubt you And I’ll only love you more – I’ll only love you more Don’t know if I told you before We’ll keep the world outside our door And I’ll only love you more

Goin’ to the store – Goin’ to the store Sunny, rainy, cold or hot I know there’s somethin’ we forgot Goin’ to the store – Goin’ to the store Even when we take the time to make a list There’s always somethin’ we missed – Goin’ to the store Once again, I’m on the by-pass - Goin’ to the store burnin’ my gas We put a gift on lay-a-way - We were at the same store yesterday I think we’re just a couple of shopaholics, Goin’ to the store or goin’to the mall It’s hard to resist the sale prices - makin’ my financial crisis Goin’ to the store – Goin’ to the store Sunny, rainy, cold or hot I know there’s somethin’ we forgot Goin’ to the store – Goin’ to the store Even when we take the time to make a list There’s always somethin’ we missed – Goin’ to the store I can’t say I’m any better - only that I’m not the worst forgetter Everyday she calls me on my cell phone, I hit the grocery store on the way home Goin’ to the store is never-ending - but shopping pushes up consumer spending For me and my lady it may be true – there’s nothin’ we’d rather do Goin’ to the store – Goin’ to the store Sunny, rainy, cold or hot I know there’s somethin’ we forgot Goin’ to the store – Goin’ to the store Even when we take the time to make a list There’s always somethin’ we missed – Goin’ to the store -Lead Break - Open weekends and holidays – early and late That’s what makes America great Drivin’ around ‘til I can park near the door I ain’t got a credit card no more I used to think I would have a heart attack Whenever I heard “We gotta take this back!” Goin’ to the store – Goin’ to the store Sunny, rainy, cold or hot I know there’s somethin’ we forgot Goin’ to the store – Goin’ to the store Even with a list there’s always somethin’ we missed When I get back home I’m really—-- Goin’ to the store – Goin’ to the store Only one thing everyone hates, nothin’s made in the United States Goin’ to the store – Goin’ to the Store That’s what makes America great – Goin’ to the store

Once a Week 03:26
Daddy always was a family man Once a week he went to church to thank God for his plan Once a week he went to town to put his money in the bank Once a week he washed his truck and put hi-test in the tank Daddy worked until the job was done Once a week he went fishing and took the kids for fun Once a week he took Mama out so they could have a date Once a week when Dale was racing, everything else could wait I thought his life was going past him But he just smiled when I asked him “In the world today how do you stay devoted to your family?” He said, “The promises you keep help you find what you seek so… me and your Mama fell in love again more than once a week.” Daddy was a man who had his views Once a week he took the time to read the hometown news Once a week he made sure were doin’ all right in school Once a week he said the politicians were mostly a bunch of fools And daddy was always thinkin’ All the drugs and all the drinkin’ And the trouble kids get into on the street Is ‘cause their Daddys don’t care about them Not even once a week [ Instru ] Daddy always was a family man Once a week he went to church to thank God for his plan And with a little smile he said “Son - you always do the very best you can Let your life be guided by a greater hand.” He said, “Make promises to keep – Know the truth before you speak And show the one you love how much you love her More than once a week Show the one you love how much you love her More than once a week You got to show the one you love how much you love More than once a week!

I can only love you – today and tomorrow After that – A lifetime is fine And after that I would have only one small sorrow I can only love you ‘til we get to the end of time I that moment when I first saw you I wanted to know you and I had to show you How we could spend hours – every day Making time for making love And making plans you’ll always stay I can only love you And that feeling won’t ever go away We could lose a week or A month of Sundays – maybe more So many years come and go Time goes by fast – you know So we should spend hours every day Making time for making love And making plans you’ll always stay I can only love you… [1st section] For love to be real – for love to exist Love needs to be shared – like this I can only love you… [1st section] I can only love you ‘til we get to the end of time I can only love you ‘til we get to the end of time ‘Til we get to the end of time The end of time

Every year they all come here When they could go anywhere else They all get the notion to come to the ocean When they could go anywhere else Starting in May, they arrive every day We got a traffic jam ‘til they all go away Speaking just for myself I wouldn’t live anywhere else Every year they drink more beer Than they will drink anywhere else And sometimes they learn you get a worse sunburn Than you will get anywhere else Some ride their Harleys and have wild parties And leave their inhibitions at home on the shelf Speaking just for myself I wouldn’t live anywhere else Some are coming down to leave their past Some are looking for a summer love to last Some are only here to shake the blues Some are here to try to break all the rules Some are only tryin’ to find themselves So they can go anywhere else [ Instru ] Every year they all come here When they could go anywhere else They all get the notion to come to the ocean When they could go anywhere else So, tell those good old boys and southern belles Even if the North Pole someday melts Speaking just for myself I wouldn’t live anywhere else Oh…tequila and rum and summer fun Even if the ocean’s rising some Speaking just for myself I wouldn’t live anywhere else Maybe the Earth is gonna come undone Even if we’re gonna have a hotter Sun Speaking just for myself I wouldn’t live anywhere else Speaking just for myself I wouldn’t live anywhere else

For old time’s sake and good times had I never thought you’d leave me feeling sad I tried to put the bad times behind Been there – done that and I find I don’t want to get in anyone’s face Maybe love’s a game of time and space For you I’m holding down the fort A day late and a dollar short Oh I thought our love was so fine Worth the price of admission or expensive wine For old time’s sake and good times had Maybe we’ll remember what made us glad I always sleep with the night light on Dreaming your back – before the dawn I sleep real late and that’s OK There’s breakfast all day at the corner café When it comes down to us falling apart I guess we’re kinda “state of the art” I thought our love was so fine Worth the price of admission or expensive wine Oh it’s hard to see life coming And like the color of the moon It changes as we watch it And our love has changed too soon When you expect too much from anyone You find the good and the bad This may be trite – but it’s all right For old time’s sake and good times had [ Instru ] For old time’s sake and good times had Don’t know why it ever made us mad Signs are all around us someone cares “In case of emergency – take the stairs” Wherever you go in that corporate jet Too bad you haven’t landed here yet When the party went on forever and ever I was there every day – or was it never? I thought our love was so fine Worth the price of admission or expensive wine Oh it’s hard to see…[ repeat chorus ] Tag: For old time’s sake and good times had For old time’s sake and good times had

He grew up with the music of America Living in Tennessee He worked on cars and old guitars He started playing when he was three He was just a kid when he heard the news The day the music died To make it live he gave it all he could give He wasn’t gonna be denied To take that guitar ride – Take that guitar ride The road and sky can be dangerous The weary don’t get no rest All those future stars in all those bars Said he was ready to play for the best Who gets on the big stage in the bright lights? The fans will always decide Word got around in that music town When the crowds jumped up and cried Take that guitar ride – Take that guitar ride He could make it look easy But there were so many years he tried And all the nights he played for no money And he mostly played for his pride And to take that guitar ride [ Guitar passage ] He played the music of America And sometimes he would pray Oh Buddy you were young but not the only one Too young to be taken away And so he went to play for the famous names Those singers – forever tied To those who play in the bands – and the gift in his hands And he believes the Lord will provide At that eternal call those who started it all Will be waiting on the other side… Saying – Take that guitar ride (repeats) [ Guitar passages ]

You gotta come to Nashville And see the Country Music Hall of Fame They got the pictures there and the stories Of every famous name Oh - by the way, I missed you a lot today You gotta come to Nashville And see the Grand Ole Opry And the Ryman Auditorium Is full of music history Oh – by the way, I missed you a lot today There ain’t no streets here paved with gold The summer’s hot and the winter’s cold Maybe they don’t need nobody else on Music Row And on sunny days and stormy nights I’m thinkin’ maybe you were right Now I’m missing you more than you will ever know And I don’t know what I was thinkin’ of When I’m here without you – I can’t write songs about love [ Instru ] You gotta come to Nashville I stay alone in this old hotel There’s a thousand dreamers here singin’ in the bars With every kind of song to sell And you won’t tell me to come back to Arkansas Because – you know me well Oh – by the way I missed you a lot today Oh - by the way I missed you a lot today Oh - by the way I missed you a lot today Oh – by the way I checked all the flights to Nashville today [ Instru ] You gotta come to Nashville…and stay

about

I guess I am writing songs most of the time. I always carry
a pad and pencil and write down what a sign may say, what
someone says, a quotation, some words that have an unusual
or "close enough" kind of rhyme, a bit of history, relationships.
These songs are mostly country music stories, some funny,
some sentimental. I hope the listeners may say "I liked that,
I'd like to hear that again." Thank you for your visit to this site
and for buying a song...maybe more.
