I believed you then And what you told me years ago Even when – There were times I didn’t know You said we’d be together And we’d make it somehow I believed you then And I want to now I believed you then You said we were meant to be Even when – there were times For you and me When we couldn’t see the way We made it somehow I believed you then And I want to now (Chorus) I believe in you For all the love we possess And I believe in you ‘Cause you never make me guess I know we’ll have tomorrow And all the love time may allow I believed you then And I believe in you now (Inst. break) I hope these simple words Will let you know The meaning of this vow I believed you then And I believe in you now (Repeat chorus - tag) Oh I believed you then And I believe in you now

Don’t underestimate the skinny kid in high school When he’s got a lot of guitars at home to play No time for video games Not so good remembering names But he sure played those guitars everyday Don’t underestimate the skinny kid in high school The girls all loved it when he played and they would say “We like your rock ‘n’ roll, some country, blues and soul You’ll be famous like Brad or Keith or Stevie Ray” It seems like yesterday - playing in that beer hall One night she was still there after last call Don’t underestimate what can happen on a date They didn’t know how hard they would fall (Lead break) Don’t underestimate the shy, pretty girl in high school Who can sing any song and sing it any way With his guitar and her voice In a band they made a choice For the freedom of the road – come what may Don’t underestimate the quiet kids in high school They found a way to make it all OK They might not get to the top But their lovin’ won’t ever stop And they’re doing fine on whatever the shows will pay It seems like yesterday – playing in that beer hall And one night she was still there after last call Don’t underestimate what can happen on a date They didn’t know how hard they would fall Don’t underestimate life and love – at all They didn’t know how hard they would fall Don’t underestimate life and love – at all

You Say 04:18
You say you’ll never leave me – Believe me It could happen to you You say you won’t be goin’ – I’m knowin’ That could come true Don’t let our memories fade and go Like an old black and white TV show You say you’ll never leave- But I don’t know You say you will be stayin’ – I’m prayin’ That’s what you’ll do You say your love won’t weaken – I’m speakin’ From my heart to you Don’t let our memories fade and go Like an old black and white TV show You say you will be stayin’ – But I don’t know You say you ain’t teasin’ And we got no good reason To worry about what’s comin’ down the road You say we got a lot of time I’ll be yours and you’ll be mine And we’ll keep each other’s love To have and to hold (Break) Don’t let our memories fade and go Like and old black and white TV show You say you’ll never leave– But I don’t know You say you’ll never leave and never go You say you’ll never leave – Oh, make it so Don’t ever go

Shelley 03:33
Shelley I know you think there’s nothin’ to do Growing up in this small country town You’re always going out and you got no doubt Love is waiting to be found But there’s a lot of no-good out there And most of those boys don’t care Romance ain’t what they got in mind They only see you as another good time Shelley you mean to show him you’re seventeen When that older boy comes around Shootin’ pool and drinkin’ beer ain’t a career And he’s the baddest boy you have found You think you have nothin’ to fear When people talk you don’t hear Romance ain’t what he’s got in mind He only sees you as another good time (Chorus) Shelley you’re breakin’ your Mama’s heart There’s so many ways trouble can start She’s only tellin’ you, “Don’t go so fast, Slow down and make your teen years last” You may not believe we care for you But your best friends know a thing or two Shelley you’re breakin’ your Mama’s heart Shelley you’re breakin’ your Mama’s heart (Lead break) Shelley your friends say you ran away To leave this small country town He talked you into goin’ but you won’t be knowin’ ‘Til he starts pushin’ you around Sending you out on the mean street For other men you won’t wanna meet Romance ain’t what they got in mind They only see you as another good time (Repeat chorus - tag) Shelley when you come back home We’ll be here in this small country town

There are songs from our past With memories attached Words and music to last Like lovers - so well matched Maybe it was just a high school dance Or that first summer romance A part of how we learn to move on For everything that happens there's a song There are songs from our past With memories attached Love and heartaches find us fast And feelings - go unmatched Maybe its just how our lives Wait for when the future arrives It doesn't mean that hope is forever gone For everything that happens there's a song (Chorus) There are songs of faith or worship And for every celebration Songs to sing for peace and war In every generation - There's a song (instrumental break) There are songs from our past With memories attached Words and music to last Like lovers so well matched Maybe there's a song you will recall When you find your soulmate after all When you know loneliness is forever gone For everything that happens there's a song For everything that happens there's a song

Bad news on every station – Young parents’ desperation Their small child is missing – Everyone searches everywhere Bad news on every station – On her spring break vacation A pretty co-ed’s gone to the ocean – Now she’s disappeared from there Bad news on every station – A high school graduation Too young to die on that country road – His family’s grief laid bare Bad news on every station – A loyal congregation They’re filled with hope and charity – And the faith they all still share (Chorus) And they - Sang that song in church again last Sunday May the road rise to meet you And help you come what may May the wind and the sun and a gentle rain Bring you blessings any day - Preacher said “Whenever a loved one is taken away - The only thing we can do right now is pray” Bad news on every station- a deadly situation A man took his gun to work and said he killed – ‘cause life ain’t fair Bad news on every station – They go to serve their nation And sometimes it will take their lives – Does anybody care? Bad news on every station - There’s no celebration And it can only make us want to weep And I’m thinking as I lay me down to sleep Salvation’s free – but it ain’t cheap (Chorus & tag) And the Preacher went on the TV just to say “The only thing we can do right now is pray” (Guitars to end…nice)

Passwords 03:33
I been listening to you all night singing in your band You should get on the Internet - I’ll give you a hand Since you asked me I can help you build your own website I seen all the ads and they say we can do it in one night You might say I’m marginally, technically adept I’ve read a lot of articles – most of them I’ve kept We can set you up on Facepage - It’s a snap to have a chat I think there’s some goggles for lookin’ up this or that (chorus) You’re lookin’ good and singing pretty just like Alison Krauss I’d like to get to know you better-I don’t have a spouse But I got a crazy cat-I’ve caught him Playin’ with my computer mouse And I’d be glad to keep your passwords safe at my house (Instrumental break) Oh I’d be glad to keep your pass words safe at my house There’s a Tweety Bird for messages you could send me anytime I think they call it “YouTunes” where you sell your songs online Kinda like love – it’s complicated and hard to understand But you should be on the Internet and I’ll give you a hand (chorus) You’re lookin’ good and singing pretty just like Alison Krauss And I’d be glad to keep your passwords safe at my house

My Love 04:03
My love is for you is patient And you will find That it was written in times ancient Love is always kind My love will not be jealous I pray you know this too In the Scriptures it will tell us Love is always true And my love is gladdened By your goodness And bound to your happiness And love is always eager To believe the best (Instrumental) My love for you is hopeful That through the years You may know my heart is so full You may let go of your fears For all true love – never disappears For all true love – never disappears [Inspired by: 1 Corinthians 13:4]

Back in the day our band got a record deal We flew everywhere on a jet plane First class for everything the money was unreal But that life was gonna make me insane Everyone said we’d be rich and famous But I didn’t want to play that game Agents and managers figured ways to blame us Obscure and secure was my aim I always was the songwriter And I love the allnighter When a song comes together at dawn There is quite an allure-To obscure and secure So I’ll keep on writing songs I don’t live on the road or in the big city I can be where I want to be Incognito – Living by the sea Obscure and secure is for me (Lead break) I always was the songwriter The future’s looking brighter Got a song buyer on the line I’m feeling pretty sure-obscure and secure Will give me my peace of mind Back in the day our band got a record deal We flew everywhere on a jet plane First class for everything the money was unreal A lot of people knew our name You’re only as good as your best and greatest Could be – It ain’t written yet Here’s another song – It’s my latest Obscure and secure – No sweat Here’s another song – It’s my latest Obscure and secure – I’m all set

She grew up not knowing If she was loved anymore Too young to understand What the grownups’ rage was for She only wanted to be held – safe and warm But there was no place to hide from the storm She thought he was the perfect man With his looks and his charm She didn’t know there was so much of her He knew how to harm She only wanted to be held – safe and warm But there was no place to hide from the storm (chorus) With a hurricane warning Along the Southern Coast Or Western wildfires burning There’s a chance for most To get away from the danger When the tornados form Everyone tries to find a place to hide – From the storm So many times her desperate fear Would take away her breath It was like any other day “Til it ended with his death She only wanted to be held-safe and warm There was no place for him to hide from the storm (Chorus) She only wanted to be held safe and warm She will be there for life and hide-from the storm

We The People need to be keeping our democracy A nation born in freedom we thought we had it made There came a false prosperity, they emptied out the Treasury Working people need a raise but Wall Street is well paid And millions say their prayers, losing sleep at night Hoping for a better day at dawns early light We The People used to be talking to each other reasonably Now our country is angry and yelling it can hardly be described Whatever happened to compromise- open minds to realize With billions in campaign cash our leaders are legally bribed They make no plans and they can’t agree on the greater good They could work to save our country if they only understood We The People want to know – where did our nation go? We The people want to know – where did our nation go? It should not be a mystery to our leaders today Courage and integrity make a better USA We The people want to know – where did our nation go? We The People want to know – where did our nation go? Superman was a reporter Truth and justice and the American way Believe in your newspapers Don’t fall for what’s on line today Round up the usual suspects Find someone to blame For those who hold the power – that’s the game We The People want to know [instrumental break] We The People need to know what’s false or true And We The People still believe somehow we’ll make it through We The People want to know- where did our nation go? We The People want to know – where did our nation go? It should not be a mystery to our leaders today Courage and integrity make a better USA We The People want to know-where did our nation go? We The People want to know-where did our nation go?

about

Probably every songwriter has been asked, “Where do
you get your ideas for songs?” For me, I try to carefully
observe life and write something almost every day.

Many of these songs are expressions of true love with one
inspired by scripture. The teen-age girl who runs away from
home with the wrong guy is a current story. Also, there is
a look at today’s bad news and how some handle it. The fate
and happiness found by the music dreamers is fun, as is the
humor of the guy trying to understand the Internet and love.
(Did I hear Alison Krauss?)

A troubled existence is related in a song of a lifetime of
fear and tragedy. Here also is a gentle plea that wisdom
and common sense be found to help save democracy for
We the People.

Thanks for listening and special thanks to those who take
some music with them.
